We have an exciting year ahead full of learning and exploring. I know you have a lot of questions, I have tried to answer them below. If your question is not answered, please let me know and I will add it to this list.
What is English Language Arts (ELA)? English is the language we are studying. Language arts is the study of grammar, reading, writing (composition), spelling, and public speaking.
What curriculum are we using? We use Open-Up Resources EL Education. This covers all of the things that we will be learning about this year and correlates with our 6th grade state standards.
Where are my assignments? What will I be doing? We are using Google Classroom this year and all of your assignments can be located there. We will be using a novel as the base of our studies and all of our assignments will correlate to this book. Our curriculum is broken up into 4 modules and within each of those modules are 3 units of study to cover.
Do I have to take a test? There is a mid-unit and end-unit assessment. In addition, you will have district and state testing (as always).
Is this year going to be different? In a normal year you would be given a student workbook to go along with the novel. This year, I have recreated all of the student pages in Google Classroom for your use. We will also be skipping over Module 2 this year.

In addition to the assignments in Google Classroom, the following resources are available to help you be successful in ELA6.
Our district requires that you complete, 60 minutes a week (that is 20 minutes a day) in Lexia Power-up. Please log into Clever and click on this icon to access this website.
This is the tool that we use to help us better understand important concepts in Language Arts. The songs help get the information stuck in our heads in a creative way. If you are struggling, please log into this site and search for the topic you need to review.
